Former senator and senatorial candidate Panfilo “Ping” Lacson has voiced his support for the investigation into the collapse of the Cabagan-Sta. Maria Bridge in Isabela, emphasizing that the probe is not just about protecting public funds but also safeguarding lives.
“The purpose of the investigation should be not just to save public funds but to ensure the safety of people’s lives,” Lacson said in a radio interview.
Recalling his time in the Senate, Lacson noted that he had reviewed infrastructure projects spanning several years and found instances of poor implementation.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has yet to determine the cause of the collapse but is examining the bridge’s structural integrity and design.
Pacquiao Pushes for Barangay Workers’ Benefits
Meanwhile, fellow senatorial candidate Manny Pacquiao pledged to advocate for increased benefits for barangay workers. Speaking to the Liga ng mga Barangay in Romblon and local officials in Cebu, he underscored the crucial role of barangay workers in crime prevention, disaster response, and aiding vulnerable communities.
“Barangay workers are our frontline responders. It’s time we provide them with the proper support and protection,” Pacquiao stated.
He promised to push for legislation increasing their honoraria, healthcare benefits, and job security while ensuring the full implementation of the Mandanas Ruling, which grants local governments a larger share of national tax revenues.
Cayetano Advocates for Women’s Leadership
Senator Pia Cayetano, another candidate under the administration’s Alyansa Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas slate, visited Cavite to discuss women’s empowerment with Governor Athena Tolentino. She emphasized the need for more female leaders in governance.
With the 2025 elections approaching, candidates continue to push their platforms, addressing issues from infrastructure safety to local government empowerment.
