Former Vice President Leni Robredo will run for Naga City mayor in the 2025 elections, confirmed Liberal Party (LP) president and Albay Representative Edcel Lagman.

“In our last conversation, it was mentioned that she is running for mayor in Naga City to continue the programs of her late husband,” Lagman stated during a virtual press conference.

Robredo, who finished second in the 2022 presidential race, is the widow of the late Jesse Robredo, former Interior and Local Government Secretary and longtime mayor of Naga City. Jesse Robredo was awarded the 2000 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Good Governance for his efforts in transforming Naga City through people-centric governance.

Lagman also mentioned that the former vice president will actively campaign for the Senate slate of the Liberal Party and its allies in the 2025 elections.

“She will join the national campaign for the senatorial slate of LP and our allies,” Lagman added.

While specific candidates for the 2025 polls have not been disclosed, a source close to Robredo indicated that she has already moved her residence back to Naga City from Magarao, Camarines Sur.

As an independent component city, Naga City is geographically part of Camarines Sur but operates independently from its provincial government. Therefore, Naga City residents do not vote for provincial government officials of Camarines Sur.

GMA News Online has reached out to Robredo for comment and will update with her response when available. The filing of candidacies for the 2025 elections is scheduled for October this year.
