During a talkback session at the advance screening of the documentary film “And So It Begins,” former Vice President Leni Robredo offered advice to future generations on “changing the world.”

Key Points from Robredo’s Talk

Robredo acknowledged the eagerness of young people to make a difference, while also noting that the path to change can often feel unclear and overwhelming, leading to feelings of helplessness and hopelessness. However, she emphasized that even small efforts can create meaningful change.

“So, that’s the only thing I always told my young staff before… Let’s just look for the spaces available for us. And the spaces available for us, no matter how small, let us fill up those spaces,” Robredo advised. She encouraged focusing on manageable problems one at a time to gradually address larger issues.

The Role of Angat Buhay Foundation

Robredo highlighted her non-government organization, Angat Buhay Foundation, as an example of making an impact through collective efforts. “I don’t want to say that what we’re doing is different, that I’m better off than them. No. But, if we synergize what we’re doing, it will become a big space for us to occupy,” she explained.

Reflecting on the 2022 Election Campaign

Robredo reflected on the 2022 presidential campaign, describing it as more than just a political campaign but a movement that sparked something special. Despite the challenges and low survey ratings, the strong collective effort made a significant impact.

“Kasi we started something really special. And that something really special was the movement that we started. The kind of movement that we started was something else. Hindi siya kampanya lang. Hindi siya basta-basta,” she said.

Continuing the Fight

Robredo emphasized that the result of the 2022 election was not the end but rather the beginning of continued efforts. She encouraged maintaining the passion, energy, and commitment demonstrated during the campaign.
