President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. expressed optimism about enhancing diplomatic relations with Colombia, Cambodia, and Ukraine after welcoming their new ambassadors to the Philippines in separate credentialing ceremonies at Malacañang on Tuesday.

In his meeting with Colombian Ambassador Edgar Rodrigo Rojas Garavito, Marcos stressed the potential to expand cooperation between the two nations. Garavito echoed this sentiment, highlighting Colombia’s shared goal with the Philippines for enduring peace and development. The Philippines and Colombia have maintained diplomatic ties since 1946, with about 100 Filipinos currently residing there.

Cambodian Ambassador Sin Saream also pledged to deepen bilateral cooperation. Marcos responded by noting the strong existing foundation between the Philippines and Cambodia, which have had diplomatic relations since 1957. Approximately 7,500 Filipinos currently live in Cambodia.

Welcoming Ukrainian Ambassador Yuliia Oleksandrivna Fediv, Marcos reiterated the Philippines’ firm support for Ukraine’s pursuit of peace amid its ongoing conflict. Fediv assured her commitment to fostering mutual cooperation and cross-border understanding. Diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Ukraine were established in 1992, with about 24 Filipinos currently based in Ukraine.
