President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is ramping up efforts to improve sewerage and wastewater systems across Metro Manila and nearby provinces — part of a broader push toward better sanitation, environmental protection, and public health.
At the inauguration of the Aglipay Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Mandaluyong, Marcos highlighted how upgraded wastewater treatment infrastructure will vastly improve the cleanliness of waterways and reduce untreated sewage flowing into rivers and coastal areas. The facility alone can treat up to 60 million liters of wastewater per day, with plans to expand capacity as demand grows, helping serve residents across Mandaluyong, San Juan, and Quezon City.
Marcos also noted that the government’s goal is to connect a large majority of households in Metro Manila, Cavite, and Rizal to sewerage systems in the coming decades, reflecting a long‑term strategy to improve water quality, sanitation service coverage, and environmental sustainability.
