President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. reiterated the Philippines’ support for Ukraine on Wednesday as Russia’s invasion of Kyiv marked its 1,000th day.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Marcos highlighted his commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity.

“Yesterday marked the 1,000th day since the war in Ukraine began,” Marcos wrote. He also reflected on his June 3 bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Malacañang, during which he emphasized the Philippines’ solidarity with Ukraine.

“It is our hope that we will see comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine. Ukraine is our valued partner, and our relations continue to go from strength to strength,” Marcos said.

Zelenskyy’s Call for Resilience

Marking the somber milestone, President Zelenskyy addressed Ukraine’s parliament on Tuesday, asserting that Ukraine would neither compromise its sovereignty nor cede its territories to Russia.

“At this stage of the war, it is being decided who will prevail—whether us over the enemy, or the enemy over us Ukrainians… and Europeans, and everyone in the world who wants to live freely and not be subject to a dictator,” Zelenskyy said, as quoted by Reuters.

Zelenskyy outlined a “Resilience Plan” to strengthen Ukraine internally, complementing the “Victory Plan” he presented to Western allies earlier this year. “Unity is the first point of our internal Resilience Plan,” he declared, underscoring the need for a united front to compel Russia into meaningful negotiations.

Ongoing Conflict

The war in Ukraine has taken a significant toll, with numerous missile and drone attacks reported in recent days. Zelenskyy reaffirmed Ukraine’s commitment to defending its territories and achieving peace through resilience and international support.

As the conflict continues, global leaders like Marcos have expressed their hopes for an end to hostilities and the restoration of Ukraine’s sovereignty.
