The trilateral phone call involving Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., US President Joe Biden, and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has been postponed to Monday, January 13, Malacañang announced over the weekend.

Initially set for Sunday, January 12, the call was rescheduled to 7 a.m. Monday at the request of the United States. Presidential Communications Office Acting Secretary Cesar Chavez cited the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles as the reason for the adjustment.

Agenda Undisclosed

While Malacañang has not revealed the specific topics for discussion, Foreign Affairs spokesperson Teresita Daza stated that the leaders are expected to review progress on the Philippines-Japan-US trilateral cooperation initiated during their meeting last year.

“They are also expected to discuss economic matters as well as regional and global developments,” Daza told GMA News Online.

The call underscores the strengthening ties between the three nations amidst evolving economic and geopolitical challenges in the region.
