President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has called on government agencies to stay committed to completing the administration’s transportation projects, as he oversaw the signing of the Laguindingan International Airport Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project agreement. The PPP aims to expand and modernize Laguindingan Airport in Northern Mindanao, increasing its capacity to serve 3.9 million passengers annually in its first phase and up to 6.3 million in the second.

Addressing the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the PPP Center, and other agencies, Marcos emphasized the importance of efficient implementation, saying, “I urge you to remain on track in completing and implementing transportation projects.” He welcomed new investors who share the goal of enhancing service quality for Filipinos.

DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista also highlighted additional projects, including the forthcoming operations of the LRT-1 extension, set to open with five new stations in mid-November, and the potential groundbreaking of the Taguig International Exchange Terminal. Additionally, the awarding of the Cebu International Container Terminal, backed by Korean Exim funding, is underway.

The Laguindingan Airport project, originally opened in 2013, aims to elevate Northern Mindanao’s connectivity by expanding facilities, upgrading terminals, and enhancing passenger services. Marcos affirmed the administration’s commitment to investing in the region’s growth and infrastructure.
