President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. called on local government leaders to strengthen their efforts and lead with innovative solutions during challenging times, highlighting their critical role in responding to disasters and driving local progress.
Speaking at the 2024 Galing Pook Awards, where ten exceptional local governance programs were recognized, Marcos commended local leaders for their proactive initiatives, especially as Luzon faces the aftermath of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine. “Our country needs leaders and innovators who step up and bring forward resilient change,” he said, praising their “out-of-the-box thinking” and dedication to community well-being.
The Galing Pook Foundation’s award-winning programs for 2024 showcased diverse initiatives, from sustainable tourism to digital birth registration, each addressing crucial community needs through collaboration and inclusivity. These include:
- Balanga Community-based Ecotourism Zone (Bataan): An ecotourism initiative supporting conservation and local livelihoods.
- Ayta Magbukun Language Restoration (Bataan Province): Revitalizing indigenous language and culture.
- Project TOP Illiteracy (Isabela): Addressing illiteracy through targeted educational interventions.
- Kapalong College of Agriculture, Sciences and Technology (Davao del Norte): Expanding higher education in rural communities.
- Ormoc Bay Rehabilitation Center (Ormoc City): Protecting marine biodiversity to sustain coastal ecosystems.
- Pag-asa sa Bagong Bahay (Bulacan): A community-oriented housing program.

Taguig City’s “Ating Dibdibin” program, a standout in health innovation, has drastically increased breast cancer screening rates and reduced breast cancer mortality in the city. “Every patient deserves a second chance, and we strive to keep families together,” said Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano.
Marcos encouraged all LGUs to continue fostering impactful change by prioritizing community-driven and innovative solutions to better serve the Filipino people.
