MANILA — Actress-singer Maris Racal revealed that she has regrets about her past relationships and is choosing to remain single for now to focus on personal growth.
In an interview with journalist Karen Davila aired on July 3, Racal shared that after the emotional toll of past relationship challenges — including a public cheating scandal involving co-star Anthony Jennings — she’s prioritizing healing and self-discovery.
“I feel like I need space to grow and process everything,” Racal said, acknowledging that while she feels strongly about staying single today, the future remains uncertain.
The “Incognito” star also confirmed that she’s still reflecting on her past, saying “yes” when asked if she had regrets, but preferred to keep the details private. “They may be painful, but I’ve made them part of my moral compass,” she said.
Racal and musician Rico Blanco confirmed their breakup in mid-2024. The fallout intensified after Jennings’ then-girlfriend exposed intimate messages between Racal and Jennings, fueling online backlash.
Despite the setbacks, Racal found strength through therapy, prayer, her best friend, and her family. She recalled a heartfelt conversation with her mother during a low point. “You’re a fighter, right? I’m a fighter too,” she told her, reinforcing her resolve to push forward.
At one point, Racal admitted she considered leaving showbiz altogether but reminded herself of her deep love for her craft and dreams. “Everything about this — my job, my dreams — I’ll do anything to make them come true,” she said, expressing gratitude to her supporters and colleagues.
Racal recently wrapped her role as Gab Rivera in the action-drama series Incognito and is set to star in the coming-of-age film Sunshine, directed by Antoinette Jadaone. The film premieres in the Philippines on July 23 and has received international acclaim at festivals including Berlin, Austin, and Palm Springs. It will also screen at the Taipei Film Festival and New York Asian Film Festival this July.
