In an unusual turn of events, a market in Tagbilaran, Bohol has gained an unexpected visitor, or rather visitors: several reticulated pythons, commonly known as sawa. These large snakes have been spotted casually roaming around the market, even making appearances on the roof, much to the amazement and sometimes fear of the shoppers and vendors.

As reported by GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak and featured on GMA Integrated Newsfeed, these sightings have become somewhat regular, with the pythons occasionally seen observing the market activities from above. While some market-goers express concern upon encountering these large creatures, many vendors have grown accustomed to their presence, often leaving the snakes undisturbed.

The reticulated python, known for being non-venomous and generally harmless, has become a kind of fixture in this Bohol market. However, the origin of these snakes and how they find their way into the market remains unclear. They are sometimes found hiding in corners and then disappearing again.

It’s important to note that under the Republic Act 9147, or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act, it is illegal to capture or kill these snakes unless human life is at risk. Authorities advise the public to report any sightings of these snakes to ensure proper handling and safety.
