Michelle Dee, the Filipino beauty queen, recently showcased her exceptional fashion sense during her grand homecoming parade following the Miss Universe preliminaries. Her choice of attire was a breathtaking gown inspired by the Philippines’ oldest and most revered traditional tattoo artist, Apo Whang-Od.

Created by designer Mark Bumgarner, the gown beautifully blended modern aesthetics with cultural elements. Featuring a sheer bodice adorned with black embroidery mimicking Whang-Od’s tattoos, a structured high collar, straight-cut pants, and a flowing train, the gown was a masterpiece of elegance and innovation. Mark Bumgarner emphasized the asymmetrical design’s contemporary edge, harmoniously combined with traditional Kalinga tattoo patterns to honor Whang-Od and the indigenous peoples of the Philippines.

Michelle Dee further accentuated the gown with a gold crown embellished with South Sea pearls from Jewelmer. This fusion of modern fashion and traditional motifs in Michelle Dee’s gown reflects a deep respect for cultural heritage, making it not just a style statement but a symbol of Filipino pride and craftsmanship.
