Mon Confiado has taken legal action against content creator Ileiad, real name Jeff Leanneroie Bonilla Jacinto, for posting a fabricated “copypasta” story about him.
On Facebook, the actor shared a photo at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Cybercrime Division, where he filed the complaint. Mon emphasized the seriousness of the case in his post, addressing Jacinto directly.
“I want to let you know that the case I filed with the NBI is not a joke. It’s real. We will take this seriously to serve as a lesson for all of us. I’m looking forward to personally meeting you in court, Mr. Jeff Jacinto. God Speed,” Mon wrote.
“Let this be a lesson to you and to everyone. Using someone’s name and photo without permission is a crime. Not all jokes are funny, and not all jokes are appropriate. Jokes should bring joy, not harm,” he added.
Ileiad, who has over 21,000 followers on Facebook, had posted a copypasta meme that falsely depicted Mon Confiado in a negative light. The story claimed Mon harassed someone at a grocery store and did not pay for items, portraying him as a thief.
Mon was deeply offended by the post and confronted Ileiad about the harmful joke.
“A joke that ruins someone’s reputation? Why joke about me? Are we close? This seems excessive just to gain likes, even if it harms someone. Then you call it a joke,” he said.
“Many people messaged me asking if it was true. Of course, I said it wasn’t. It never happened, and I’m not that kind of person,” he added.
In their online chat, Ileiad apologized, stating it was not his intention to tarnish Mon’s image and agreed that not everyone would understand the joke. Ileiad took down the post and issued a public apology, stating he would only make copypastas about himself in the future.
“My deepest and sincerest apologies to critically-acclaimed actor Mon Confiado. As requested, I have taken down the vile and misleading post off the page and I will only be making copypastas about myself from now on,” he said.
“And as penance, I will be eating only Filipino-branded cornballs for lunch and perhaps even for dinner,” he added.
Mon found the apology insincere and proceeded with the complaint, citing the risk to his professional work, including films, endorsements, and brand ambassadorships.
“Mr. Jeff Jacinto, I repeat, I was minding my own business and you disturbed me. But when I commented on your post and messaged you, you asked, ‘is this a threat?’ You didn’t take it down until the following night,” he said.
“Yes, you issued a public apology later on, but it was sarcastic and insincere. There was no remorse, and you seemed proud of what you did. Now your followers are making fun of me, and you are the victim while I am the bad guy,” he added.
As of writing, Ileiad’s page is no longer available on Facebook.
