A driver lost his life after his multicab crashed into a tree in Valencia, Negros Oriental.

According to a report by Saksi, authorities found the driver unresponsive and trapped behind the steering wheel during rescue operations. His assistant, however, managed to jump out of the vehicle before impact.

The assistant recounted that the driver lost control of the brakes and instructed him to jump. He believes the driver deliberately steered into the tree to prevent the vehicle from plunging off a nearby cliff.

Police reports indicate that the multicab was overloaded with bananas, vegetables, and beer bottles at the time of the accident.

The driver’s family has yet to comment on the tragedy.

According to data from the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group, road crash incidents in provincial areas reached 25,143 from January to September 2024, a significant rise from 18,071 in the same period in 2023.
