Nesthy Petecio secured another medal for the Philippines by defeating China’s Zichun Xu in a unanimous decision during the women’s 57kg boxing quarterfinals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Petecio’s victory ensures her place in the semifinals, bringing her one step closer to potentially surpassing her silver medal achievement from the Tokyo Olympics three years ago.
This win elevates the Philippines’ medal count to three, following gymnast Carlos Yulo’s gold in the men’s floor exercise and boxer Aira Villegas’ guaranteed bronze in the women’s 50kg category.
