A devastating fire broke out in Barangay Camp 6, Tuba, Benguet, early New Year’s Day, leaving one person dead, two injured, and 26 homes destroyed. The incident, which caused an estimated P37.5 million in property damage, occurred at The Riverside Compound along Kennon Road around 1 a.m.

Rapid Spread Due to Light Materials

The tightly packed homes, mostly constructed with light materials such as wood, allowed the fire to spread rapidly.

“The houses were closely built, and many used wood for construction, which fueled the quick spread of the fire,” explained FCINSP. Jesus Yango, Benguet Provincial Fire Marshal.

Firefighting Efforts

Firefighters battled the blaze for over five hours, managing to control it by 4:25 a.m. and fully extinguish it by 6:30 a.m. Kennon Road was temporarily closed for debris clearing but was reopened to motorists later that day.

Ongoing Investigation and Assistance

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Benguet is investigating the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, residents of the affected area are awaiting assistance as clearing operations continue.
