Legazpi City—The Office of Civil Defense in Bicol ordered the local government units in Bicol to be ready for possible evacuations of residents living in high risk areas following bad weather disturbance brought by Tropical Storm Agaton with international name (MEGI).

Claudio Yucot, OCD Bicol director and RDRRMC chairman issued the red alert status in Bicol for disaster responders and the communities to be on guard for possible eventualities.

“We encourage all agencies to prepare for any eventualities,” Yucot said.

“This is the first time that there will be a weather disturbance during Holy Week. This is why, we need to prepare our local government units and communities,” the OCD director in Bicol said.

Yucot also activated the disaster risk reduction (DRR) officials for possible evacuations of residents living in high risk areas across the Bicol Region.

Christian Jasmin, PCG Bicol commander ordered the suspension of all trips of all vessels enroute to Eastern Samar Islands due to Agaton.

At least 2,022 passengers in Matnog port bound for Visayas including 1,460 rolling cargoes were stranded in Matnog town, Sorsogon province following Tropical Storm Agaton.(Raydes Barcia)
