The Philippines has officially launched a major upgrade to its highway toll‐payment system: starting now, motorists only need one RFID sticker to travel on all toll expressways in Luzon. The initiative, named the Toll Collection System Interoperability Project or popularly the “One RFID, All Tollways” program, was unveiled at a ceremony held at the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) Toll Operation Building in Calamba City, Laguna.
Previously, drivers had to carry separate RFID stickers (and accounts) depending on which expressway they used—such as one for the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) or Tarlac‑Pangasinan‑La Union Expressway (TPLEX), and another for the Metro Manila Skyway or SLEX. As President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. noted, this meant two cards, two accounts, two loads for many drivers.
Under the new system:
- Motorists may choose either of the two main providers—Autosweep or Easytrip—and that one account will work across all major toll roads in Luzon.
- The registration for the unified RFID is free and voluntary. If you’re already happy with your setup, you can keep it. But if you frequently travel multiple expressways, you can opt-in to simplify the process.
- The project is expected to ease toll plaza congestion and reduce driver inconvenience, thanks to fewer tags, fewer account burdens, and smoother transitions between tollways
This development marks the culmination of years of coordination between the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB), and major toll-road concessionaires. Drivers traveling across multiple expressways now have one less hurdle to navigate
