Amid growing tensions and missile strikes in Israel, at least 50 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are confirmed for repatriation, with 26 already evacuated through the Jordanian border, according to Philippine Ambassador to Israel Aileen Mendiola.

In an interview with Super Radyo dzBB on Monday, Mendiola shared that recurring missile alerts have forced Filipinos into bomb shelters once again. “We had just exited the shelter when another alert came,” she recounted.

Despite the risks, many OFWs remain hesitant to leave due to the financial impact of returning home early, which would end their work contracts. “It’s difficult when they change their minds at the last minute,” Mendiola said.

The Philippine Embassy is coordinating with community leaders to finalize repatriation lists and secure transit visas via Jordan. Of the 253 total repatriation requests, 50 are already confirmed for the next wave of return.

The Israeli Home Front Command has imposed strict restrictions, halting schools, work, and gatherings amid renewed clashes involving Iran and the U.S. Filipinos, especially caregivers, are significantly affected.

Mendiola reported that 118 of the 127 OFWs displaced by missile strikes have been relocated, and 32 more were safely evacuated from a nursing home that was hit. Fortunately, all took shelter underground and were unharmed.

The Department of Migrant Workers is also offering alternative accommodations for those unwilling to stay in government-run relocation areas. Of the eight OFWs reported injured, seven have recovered while one remains critical after surgery.

Mendiola confirmed that internet and phone lines in Israel remain reliable. She urged families to stay updated through the official Facebook page “PH in Israel” or by calling:

  • +972-544-661-188
  • +972-50911-4017

She appealed to Filipinos considering repatriation to make firm decisions to streamline evacuation efforts. “Please don’t back out after confirming, so we can finalize the list,” she said.

With the crisis level raised to Alert Level 3, the Philippine government encourages voluntary repatriation from Israel and Iran due to heightened hostilities.
