A Pakistani fan’s fervent admiration for Taylor Swift has earned him the title of the ultimate Swiftie, as he shattered the Guinness World Record by naming an impressive array of the pop icon’s songs. 20-year-old Bilal Ilyas Jhandir demonstrated his unparalleled dedication and knowledge of Swift’s discography by correctly identifying 34 songs within a mere minute, surpassing the previous record of 27 set by Dan Simpson of the United Kingdom in 2019.
Bilal’s challenge involved recognizing songs from a list of Taylor Swift’s top 50 best-selling tracks, presented in a randomized order. His task was to identify each song merely from its opening lyrics, recited by a human voice without the aid of any musical accompaniment. His profound connection with Swift’s music was evident as he navigated this challenge with ease, attributing his success to a lifelong passion for her music. He proudly shared, “I have listened to each and every song of hers. I can identify almost any song of hers from the lyrics.”
This recent accolade marks Bilal’s third Guinness World Records title, demonstrating his exceptional auditory skills and dedication. His previous records include identifying the most animals from their sounds and recognizing the most Justin Bieber songs from their lyrics, both within one minute. However, this latest achievement holds a special place in his heart, as being acknowledged as a “certified Swiftie” brought him immense joy and pride.
Bilal’s journey to this record wasn’t without its challenges. He underwent 13 weeks of rigorous preparation, which included extensive listening sessions and practicing the lyrics. He even incorporated his preparations into his daily routine, reciting lyrics aloud before sleep. Although Bilal found the task relatively straightforward, he acknowledged the added complexity of interpreting the lyrics without Swift’s melodic guidance.
Among Taylor Swift’s albums, Bilal holds ‘Folklore’ in high regard, lauding it as an “absolute masterpiece.” He expressed his deep admiration for Swift’s authentic songwriting, emotional depth, and her innate ability to resonate with listeners on a personal level, encapsulating the essence of her global appeal.
