Malacañang assured the public that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. remains confident in the loyalty of the police and military following the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte over crimes against humanity charges.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro stated that there is no need for a loyalty check among security forces.
“Loyalty check? None. The President is confident. What we did was in accordance with the law,” Castro said.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) also dismissed claims that some of its personnel resigned in support of Duterte. Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) denied reports of resignations among its ranks over the former president’s legal troubles.
The AFP urged the public “to exercise critical discernment and avoid spreading unconfirmed information.”
On Tuesday, authorities served an ICC arrest warrant against Duterte for alleged crimes against humanity linked to his war on drugs, which reportedly resulted in at least 6,000 deaths.
Duterte is scheduled to appear before ICC judges on Friday, where he will be informed of the charges against him and his rights as a defendant.
