ROMBLON — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) successfully rescued three individuals stranded by rising floodwaters in Sitio Poblacion, Barangay Sawang, Odiongan, Romblon on January 10, 2026 (Friday morning).
The victims—a family of three (a mother, father, and their 12-year-old child)—were trapped inside their home after heavy rains caused rapid flooding in low-lying areas of Odiongan. The water level reached chest-high, preventing them from evacuating on their own.
Rescue Details
- Time of Incident: Around 7:00 a.m.
- Responding Team: PCG Substation Odiongan, assisted by local barangay responders.
- Method: PCG personnel used a rubber boat to reach the stranded family and safely transport them to higher ground.
- Condition: All three were reported in good health with no injuries; they were turned over to relatives and local disaster authorities for temporary shelter.
The rescue came amid persistent heavy rains brought by the shear line and northeast monsoon (amihan) affecting Southern Luzon, including Romblon. PAGASA has been issuing warnings for possible flash floods and landslides in low-lying and mountainous areas.
PCG Romblon District Commander Capt. Arnel Satur reminded residents:
“Always monitor weather advisories and evacuate early when flooding is imminent. Your safety is our priority.”
Here are photos from the rescue operation — PCG personnel in action, the rubber boat in use, and the relieved family safely on higher ground.
A timely and successful rescue — kudos to the PCG and local responders!
Stay safe, Romblon residents — monitor alerts and avoid flood-prone areas.
