The Philippines and the United States have successfully conducted their third Maritime Cooperative Activity (MCA) in the West Philippine Sea, further solidifying their dedication to bolstering security and stability within the Indo-Pacific region. This initiative, as announced by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), underscores a routine yet strategic effort to strengthen the bilateral ties between the two nations, particularly in maritime security.

The MCA included a series of coordinated exercises, such as communication drills, photographic operations, and division tactics, which are essential for enhancing interoperability and mutual understanding between the Philippine and US navies. Notably, the Philippine Navy’s BRP Gregorio Del Pilar (PS-15) and AW109 Helicopter (NH434), alongside the US Navy’s USS Gabrielle Giffords (LCS 10) with an MH-60S Sea Hawk helicopter, engaged in advanced planning and maritime communication exercises within the Philippines’ Exclusive Economic Zone.

General Romeo Brawner Jr., AFP Chief of Staff, highlighted the significance of the continuous maritime cooperative activities, stating they are a testament to the enduring partnership between the Philippines and the United States. He emphasized that such collaborations not only affirm their commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific but also promote closer cooperation in enhancing maritime capabilities.

This latest endeavor between the Philippine and US armed forces serves as a strategic move to uphold peace and security in the region, amidst ongoing concerns over maritime sovereignty and the rights of Filipino fisherfolk in the contested waters.
