The Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C. has confirmed that no Filipino citizens were injured in the recent collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland. Consul Mark Dominic Lim communicated to the media that the embassy has not received any reports of Filipinos affected by this unfortunate incident.

The embassy remains vigilant, actively monitoring the developments and specifically inquiring about any Filipino crew members on the Singaporean cargo ship involved in the collision leading to the bridge’s collapse. Maryland and Baltimore authorities have declared a state of emergency and are conducting search and rescue operations for the missing victims, with concerns particularly focused on six construction workers who were on the bridge at the time of the incident.

Preliminary findings indicate that the ship issued a distress call before the collision, prompting the immediate closure of the bridge. Investigations by the National Transportation Safety Board are underway to ascertain the sequence of events, while the Federal Bureau of Investigation has ruled out terrorism as a cause.

The incident has drawn international attention, with the Philippine Embassy actively engaged in ensuring the safety of its citizens and providing updates on the situation
