The Naga City Police Office (NCPO) is currently investigating a violent fraternity initiation that was caught on video, showing a student being severely beaten by fellow students.
The disturbing footage reveals a student being blindfolded and assaulted by other students, struggling to sit or stand following the ordeal. The incident, suspected to be part of a fraternity’s initiation or welcome rites, occurred at an undisclosed location in Naga City.
NCPO has received the video and is actively investigating the matter. PMaj. Alex Sumayao, Station Commander of NCPO Station 3, stated, “Igwa na pong nangyaring coordination an satong WCPD (Women and Children Protection Desk) ta mga minors ito sa eskwelahan na involved,” confirming that the investigation involves the school’s cooperation due to the involvement of minors.
The school involved has identified the students in the video, who are believed to be from the Junior High School level, and has condemned the violent actions, stating that such behavior is not tolerated in their institution. The students involved may face expulsion based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
Another school, where one of the involved students attends, is also working with authorities. Meanwhile, the students implicated in the incident are receiving psycho-social and emotional support to address any trauma they experienced.
The Department of Education (DepEd) in Naga City has strongly condemned the incident. Fernando Macaraig, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent (ASDS) of the Naga City Schools Division Office, expressed, “Ini po ay kinokondenar po ini kan satuyang department, dae po ini pigtotolerate kan satuyang department,” underscoring the department’s stance against such violence.
DepEd Naga has committed to increasing monitoring of secondary schools in the city, particularly those that might be influenced by fraternities, to prevent similar incidents in the future.
