The Philippine National Police (PNP) has announced that its internal investigation found no evidence linking police officers or politicians to the escape of former Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo, who fled the country in July.
During the Senate plenary discussions on the 2025 budget, Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino, representing the PNP, confirmed to Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros that their investigation revealed no police involvement in aiding Guo’s escape. “Nagkaroon po ng imbestigasyon at ang resulta ay wala talagang natukoy na involved na miyembro ng Philippine National Police,” Tolentino explained.
Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada further inquired if any politicians were implicated. Tolentino responded that the custodial investigation similarly found no evidence of political involvement.
Hontiveros had earlier revealed in an August Senate speech that Guo had fled to Malaysia in July. After being located in Indonesia, Guo was handed over to Philippine authorities on September 5.
Guo faces multiple legal charges, including a qualified human trafficking case in Pasig, a graft case in Valenzuela, a tax evasion complaint, 87 counts of money laundering, and complaints of perjury and falsification. These charges stem from her alleged role in the POGO hub in Bamban, Tarlac, where she previously served as mayor.
