Authorities are investigating two “persons of interest” in connection with the deadly bombing at the Mindanao State University (MSU) in Marawi City, which claimed the lives of four individuals and injured several others. The identities of the individuals are being withheld for security reasons, but they are believed to be residing within Lanao del Sur province.

The Islamic State (IS) group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which occurred during a Catholic Mass inside the university gymnasium on Sunday, December 3. The group, which maintains a presence in the southern Philippines, issued a statement on Telegram announcing that its members carried out the bombing.

In response to the bombing, heightened security measures have been implemented in the region and around Metro Manila. Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
