Vatican City – Pope Francis, 88, is showing signs of improvement as he continues treatment for double pneumonia at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, the Vatican announced Monday.

Doctors have lifted their previous “guarded” prognosis, confirming that the pope is no longer in immediate danger. Blood tests and clinical evaluations indicate he is responding well to medication. However, he is expected to remain hospitalized for several more days for continued treatment.

Francis has been in hospital since February 14, battling a severe respiratory infection. His condition worsened on March 3, requiring oxygen support and non-invasive ventilation at night.

Despite his illness, the pope continues to work from the hospital, holding meetings with Vatican officials and following Easter preparations via live stream.

This hospitalization marks his longest public absence since becoming pope in 2013. With past lung issues and ongoing mobility challenges, experts warn his recovery may be prolonged.
