Marikina, Philippines: A unique incident in Marikina led to a significant power disruption affecting over 4,000 households. A man climbed a Meralco utility pole and remained there for nearly 30 hours, prompting Meralco to shut off the electricity supply in Barangay Calumpang as a safety precaution to prevent electrocution. This power outage had widespread effects on the community, including the suspension of classes at Jesus Flock Academy due to the discomfort caused by the heat without electricity, as stated by the school’s security guard, Nonoy Pamilara.
The loss of power also forced nearby malls and businesses to cease operations and caused traffic congestion along the Marcos Highway. The situation was resolved when the man moved to a different pole around 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, allowing Meralco to restore electricity. The man’s brother arrived on the scene by 2:00 p.m., leading to a successful rescue at 4:15 p.m., after which the man was taken to a nearby health center for treatment.
