President Ferdinand ”Bongbong” Marcos Jr., during the Bagong Pilipinas kick-off rally at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila, firmly stated that Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines) represents a set of ideals and aspirations for the nation’s future, not a covert partisan group. The President’s message sought to clarify the essence of the campaign and set the record straight amid circulating speculations.
The event, led by the Presidential Communications Office, saw the attendance of notable figures including Vice President Sara Duterte, who later left for a rally in Davao City, and a cadre of cabinet secretaries who are instrumental in driving the Bagong Pilipinas campaign’s initiatives. The presence of these high-ranking officials, including Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel Bonoan, and others, highlighted the comprehensive support for the campaign within the Marcos administration.
Amidst the backdrop of the Philippine flag, supporters in thousands gathered at the Quirino Grandstand, reflecting the public’s endorsement of the administration’s vision for a revitalized nation. Each cabinet secretary took the stage to share the progress and developments their respective agencies are contributing to the Bagong Pilipinas campaign, signifying a collective effort towards national development and progress.
Addressing a potential misunderstanding, PCO Undersecretary Gerard Baria emphasized that the Bagong Pilipinas campaign’s kickoff rally was not intended to advocate for Charter change (Cha-cha), but rather to demonstrate the executive department’s dedication to serving the public. The clarification comes at a crucial time, distinguishing the campaign’s objectives from the legislative processes of Congress.
The rally, described by PCO Director Cris Villonco as fundamentally aimed at empowering Filipinos, stood as a testament to the government’s commitment to fostering a stronger, more unified nation. While specific financial details of the rally were not disclosed, it was noted that the expenses for attendees from various government agencies were managed by their respective department secretaries, ensuring a well-organized and impactful event.
As Bagong Pilipinas garners attention and support, President Marcos’s assertion positions the campaign as a beacon of collective aspirations and national unity, steering clear of partisan affiliations and focusing on the holistic progress and empowerment of the Filipino people.
