President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has extended the term of Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police General Rommel Francisco Marbil for an additional four months, allowing him to serve beyond the mandatory retirement age of 56.
Extension Effective February 7, 2025
According to a memorandum signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Marcos approved Marbil’s term extension effective February 7, 2025, the day of his supposed retirement.
Marbil expressed gratitude to President Marcos for entrusting him with continued leadership, emphasizing that the extension will allow him to refine election security preparations for the upcoming 2025 national and local elections.
“The four-month extension will help us refine and improve the preparations we made for the election,” Marbil told reporters.
Commitment to Fair and Peaceful Elections
In a separate statement, Marbil vowed to uphold integrity, professionalism, and dedication within the PNP, ensuring that the 2025 elections will be peaceful, credible, fair, and honest.
“With this extension, I assure the President and the Filipino people that I will remain steadfast in serving with integrity and professionalism,” he said.
