President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has returned to the Philippines following a four-day working trip to Osaka, Japan, according to a statement from his office on Sunday evening.
He landed back in the country at 6 p.m., concluding a visit that focused on economic partnerships, support for overseas Filipinos, and international collaboration. During his time in Osaka, Marcos engaged with the Filipino community and secured several business deals with Japanese companies.
Among the highlights: Kanadevia Corporation is set to partner with Philippine Ecology Systems Corp. on a waste-to-energy project, promising both environmental benefits and renewable energy. Meanwhile, Japan’s Tsuneishi Group committed to constructing the world’s first methanol dual-fueled KAMSARMAX bulk carrier in Cebu—a move expected to create jobs and advance the Philippines’ green shipping capabilities.
In addition to economic talks, the President also met with leaders in the tourism industry to attract more Japanese travelers to the Philippines and expand job opportunities. A key meeting with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) opened the door to cooperation in space technology, especially in areas such as disaster management, agricultural support, and public safety.
President Marcos, accompanied by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, also visited the Philippine Pavilion at the ongoing World Expo 2025 in Osaka—twice during his stay—where the attraction has already drawn more than 40,000 visitors.
During his absence, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Education Secretary Sonny Angara, and Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado Estrella III served as caretakers of national affairs.
