Public school teachers and other government employees will soon receive a medical allowance of P7,000 as part of their expanded healthcare benefits starting in 2025, the Department of Education (DepEd) announced. This allowance represents a significant increase from the P500 provided in 2020, which covered eligible diagnostic tests.
The new allowance is outlined in Executive Order No. 64, s. 2024, signed by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., and aims to help subsidize health maintenance organization (HMO)-type benefits for eligible government personnel, including public school teachers.
“If we pool that together, we can secure comprehensive insurance coverage for our teachers,” said Education Secretary Sonny Angara.
The increase in medical allowance was one of the commitments made by President Marcos during his third State of the Nation Address in July, where he promised additional benefits for government employees.
Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman previously revealed that the proposed P6.35-trillion national budget for 2025 includes nearly P10 billion allocated for HMO benefits for government workers.
