The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) and the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) are mourning the loss of Patrolman Harwin Curtney Baggay, who was killed during a shootout with a robbery suspect on Monday.

In an official statement, QCPD paid tribute to Baggay’s bravery, describing him as a dedicated officer who made the “ultimate sacrifice” in the line of duty. “We extend our deepest condolences to his family and assure them of our full support during this difficult time,” QCPD said.

NCRPO echoed the sentiment, calling Baggay “a hero to all of us” and said his courage exemplified the highest standards of police service. “His sacrifice must inspire us to serve with greater vigilance and dedication,” the statement read.

The incident occurred near Benigno Aquino Elementary School. Baggay and another officer responded after hearing gunshots roughly 25 meters from their post. They encountered an ongoing robbery, during which Baggay was shot in the left arm, with the bullet passing through to his chest.

Despite his injury, Baggay was able to fire back, while his fellow officer neutralized the suspect. Sadly, Baggay was pronounced dead after being rushed to Rosario Maclang Hospital.

Two civilians—identified as “Sonny” and “Irah Mae”—were also injured during the robbery. Both are currently receiving medical treatment.

QCPD and NCRPO vowed continued support for Baggay’s family and hailed his heroism in the line of duty.
