The reward for information leading to the capture of the killer of Mangayon, a Philippine eagle, has been increased to P100,000.
Initially, Davao de Oro Governor Dorothy Gonzaga offered P50,000, which was matched by Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo Loyzaga, doubling the total reward.
This effort aims to intensify the search for justice for the national bird’s death. Mangayon was shot in Davao de Oro and succumbed to severe blood loss in July 2024, according to the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF).
Military troops found the eagle with a wounded left wing, weak and lying on the ground in Barangay Mangayon, Compostela town.
The PEF noted that Mangayon was the 20th eagle rescued since 2020 and the fourth to fall victim to gunshot wounds in 2024.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.
