Rita Daniela, the Kapuso singer and actress, recently appeared on “It’s Showtime’s” matchmaking segment, “EXpecially For You,” where she candidly discussed her past relationships. Accompanied by her older brother, Onin, Rita shared insights into her love life and the challenges she faced.
Rita’s Past Relationships
Rita revealed she has had two significant relationships. Her first relationship began when she was 18 years old, and it turned out to be a difficult experience due to her partner’s infidelity. Her ex, a dancer and architect, was unfaithful, which Rita discovered firsthand during a show’s afterparty. Despite her confrontational nature, she befriended the women her ex was involved with, seeking the truth with Onin’s help. Onin, protective of his sister, warned the ex to stay away from their home after learning about the betrayal.
Reflecting on the heartbreak, Rita said, “First eh, kahit na napapahiya ka na, pero i-go-go mo kasi first mo ‘yun eh. Parang meron kang tina-try pino-prove eh. Papamukha mo, lalo na sa pamilya mo, ‘hindi, kaya ko ‘to. Mag-sa-succeed ‘to. Magtatagal kami kasi worth it ‘tong relationship na ‘to.’”
Rita’s second relationship was with the father of her son, Uno. They were together for almost four years before deciding to part ways. Rita explained that while they tried to make things work for Uno’s sake, it was ultimately better for their son if they separated.
“Being a single mom, it’s really a choice,” Rita added, emphasizing that it was better for Uno to grow up in a loving environment, even if his parents weren’t together. She chose to prioritize Uno’s well-being over maintaining a dysfunctional relationship.
Matchmaking Segment
During the segment, Rita had three potential dates: DJ Jimmy, Lawrence, and AJ. DJ Jimmy, a sporty DJ from Makati, quickly impressed both Rita and Onin with his responsible nature and readiness to provide for a family. He promised to play “Beautiful in My Eyes” for baby Uno and spoke about his dedication to working hard for his family.
Rita followed Onin’s advice and chose DJ Jimmy, giving him her two green flags.
Before the segment concluded, Onin shared a heartfelt message with his sister. “Enjoy life lang. Mahalin mo lang si Uno tsaka ‘yung sarili mo. Love yourself. Tsaka andito lang ako palagi para sa inyong dalawa. Love you.” Onin also became emotional when advising Jimmy to take care of Rita.
Rita expressed her gratitude to Onin, saying, “Maraming salamat kuya for always being there kahit na alam kong madaming misunderstanding bilang magkapatid pero never kang nagkulang maging kuya sa amin ng ate ko. Kaya thank you palagi for always choosing us. I love you.”
