MANILA — Sandra Cam, a former Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) board member and renowned whistleblower, has passed away, her family confirmed on Thursday.
Her son made the announcement on social media, sharing heartfelt words about her life and legacy:
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved mother, Sandra Abaño-Martinez-Cam.”
Born in Batuan, Masbate, Cam was known for her fearless fight against corruption and her dedication to public service. Her son described her as a faithful, bold, and courageous woman whose commitment to truth earned her several accolades, including the “Dangal ng Bayan” award, “Natatanging Filipina” honor, and recognition as an “Outstanding Asian Public Servant and Educator.”
Affectionately known as “Mama Ningning,” Cam was a resilient single mother who raised three sons, each inspired by her example of service, integrity, and compassion.
Cam rose to national prominence as a jueteng whistleblower and served as president of the Whistleblowers Association of the Philippines. In 2016, she ran for the Senate but was unsuccessful in her bid.
Her remains are currently at St. Peter Chapels in Parañaque City, with public viewing beginning on Friday, April 11 at 6 p.m.
