Vice President Sara Duterte expressed strong confidence in her legal team’s ability to overcome the impeachment case filed against her, stating that her lawyers are “more than confident” of a favorable outcome.

During an ambush interview while visiting Cebu to thank supporters, Duterte shared that she met with her legal team upon her return to the Philippines after a three-week stay in the Netherlands.

“My lawyers are very confident about winning the impeachment. I fully trust their work,” Duterte said.

The House of Representatives impeached Duterte on February 5, with over 200 lawmakers backing the move. She faces accusations of betrayal of public trust, constitutional violations, graft, and other high crimes.

In response, Duterte filed a petition before the Supreme Court seeking to stop the process. She claimed the House violated the constitutional one-year limit on filing multiple complaints by acting on a fourth impeachment complaint while ignoring the first three.

The Senate is expected to begin the impeachment trial by the end of July, with a decision likely by October. House prosecutors, including Iloilo Rep. Lorenz Defensor, have assembled a team of seasoned litigators with experience in previous impeachment trials.

Duterte recently returned from the Netherlands, where her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, is detained facing charges of crimes against humanity.
