In a touching display of remembrance and celebration, SEVENTEEN’s Seungkwan gifted his fans and followers with a deeply personal music video to commemorate his 26th birthday on January 16. The video, set to the soul-stirring melody of Choi Yu Ree’s “Shape,” was not just a showcase of Seungkwan’s artistic talent but also a heartfelt ode to the cherished individuals in his life.
The compilation was meticulously self-edited by Seungkwan, affectionately known as Boo, and it encapsulated moments with his beloved mother, his bandmates from SEVENTEEN, and their devoted fanbase, CARATs. However, the inclusion that resonated most profoundly with fans was the poignant tribute to ASTRO’s Moonbin, Seungkwan’s dear friend and fellow luminary in the K-Pop constellation, who tragically left the world in 2023. The video concluded with a symbolic final clip—a serene shot of the moon, perhaps a gentle nod to Moonbin’s enduring legacy.
The emotional journey continued as Seungkwan also featured clips with other cherished idols, including Umji and SinB from VIVIZ, Lee Suji, and Moon Sua from Billlie, creating a mosaic of friendships and shared moments.
Moonbin’s untimely departure at 25 years old in April last year left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of many. The news of him being found unresponsive in his Gangnam residence sent ripples of sorrow across the globe. Moonbin’s talents extended beyond ASTRO, as he shone brightly as half of the subunit Moonbin & Sanha, which graced Manila with a memorable performance in March 2023.
In the backdrop of these poignant memories, SEVENTEEN’s presence in the Philippines for their electrifying two-night concert at the Philippine Sports Stadium as part of their FOLLOW Tour marked a continuum of the profound connections K-Pop artists share with their fans. Seungkwan, alongside DK and Hoshi from the BSS subunit, had also graced the country in December during the Asia Artist Awards, where they ignited the stage with their performance of “Fighting.”
As the music video weaves the tapestry of Seungkwan’s life, friendships, and the unspoken bonds that transcend time and space, it stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of connection and remembrance in the world of K-Pop.
