Former Senator Sonny Angara has been officially sworn in as the new Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The ceremony took place on Friday at Malacañang.

Oath of Office

“I have just administered the oath to our good friend here, Secretary Sonny Angara, for his new position in the Department of Education. That formalizes his taking on of the position of Secretary for DepEd,” Marcos announced.

Optimism and Expectations

Marcos, who appointed Angara as the new DepEd chief on July 2, expressed optimism about the positive changes Angara could bring to the department. “We are looking forward to many good things to come from this appointment. We have had some discussions before he took his oath to give ourselves a good idea of what we think needs to be done,” Marcos stated. “I know Sonny knows what is important and I know how to get these things done, so I’m very optimistic for DepEd.”

Angara’s Gratitude

Angara expressed his gratitude for the appointment, saying, “I’m extremely grateful to our President for entrusting me with this important task to lead a very important department, to use the President’s words.” He emphasized the significance of education and his eagerness to work closely with the President for necessary reforms in the educational system.

Transition from Senate to DepEd

Angara resigned from the Senate on Thursday, making way for his new role. He took over the Education chief post following Vice President Sara Duterte’s resignation. A turnover ceremony was held on Thursday at the DepEd Complex in Pasig City, where Duterte and Angara met.
