An incident early on Saturday morning on the southbound lane of EDSA near the EDSA-Ortigas flyover in Mandaluyong City caused significant traffic congestion. A sports utility vehicle (SUV) crashed into a series of concrete barriers, leading to an obstruction in the flow of vehicles. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) was alerted to the situation shortly after 6 a.m., following a broadcast by Luisito Santos on Super Radyo dzBB.
The aftermath of the collision saw the SUV obstructing not only the EDSA Busway but also the adjoining regular lane. This unexpected barrier forced buses to reroute, utilizing the regular lanes as a temporary measure. Remarkably, the driver of the SUV emerged from the incident without injuries. However, she reported not having seen the concrete barriers, which led to the unfortunate event.
The disruption caused by this accident necessitated immediate action, and the MMDA promptly commenced an investigation to understand the sequence of events and to implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
