MANILA – The Meralco Terra Solar project is set to enhance Luzon’s power supply, energizing over two million households and reducing annual carbon emissions by 4.3 million metric tons, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. announced Thursday.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony in Nueva Ecija, Marcos highlighted the project’s contribution to the country’s renewable energy targets and power stability.

“Once fully operational by 2027, this facility will deliver 3,500 megawatts peak of solar power to the Luzon grid, with 4,500 megawatt-hour of battery energy storage,” Marcos said.

Key Features of the Project

The Terra Solar project includes a 13-kilometer, 500-kilovolt transmission line, ensuring efficient delivery of clean energy to homes and businesses. The initiative aims to:

  • Stabilize power supply and reduce energy costs.
  • Contribute to the government’s goal of 35% renewable energy in the power mix by 2030.

Community and Economic Impact

The solar project spans five municipalities across Nueva Ecija and Bulacan, offering significant benefits to local communities:

  • 10,000 job opportunities during its development phase.
  • Economic growth and improved livelihoods for residents in the surrounding areas.

“This project will stimulate local economies and open countless opportunities for growth and development in those communities,” Marcos added.

The Terra Solar project underscores the government’s commitment to sustainable energy and economic progress as part of its broader agenda to address climate change and energy challenges.
