In a somber turn of events, a construction site in Liliw, Laguna, became the scene of a tragic landslide, resulting in the loss of a worker’s life and leaving two others gravely injured. The incident occurred on the afternoon of January 11, 2024, during the construction of a riprap for a dam along a river in Barangay Calumpang.

The landslide, which saw a cliff suddenly collapse, engulfed the workers, necessitating a swift rescue operation. Emergency responders and co-workers frantically worked to extract the victims from the debris. The fallen worker was identified as 36-year-old Vijay Estanda Salisod, whose life was tragically cut short in this unexpected disaster. His colleagues, 59-year-old Eduardo De Chavez Dela Cueva and 41-year-old Joel Apostol Basco, sustained serious injuries and were immediately rushed to Nagcarlan District Hospital for urgent medical care.

This incident underscores the ever-present dangers faced by construction workers, particularly in areas prone to natural disasters such as landslides. It also highlights the importance of stringent safety measures and emergency preparedness at construction sites, especially those in geographically vulnerable regions.
