A motorcyclist lost their life following a dangerous maneuver that led to a collision with an oncoming vehicle on Skyway Stage 3 in Balintawak, Quezon City. The accident, which was captured on camera, occurred early Sunday morning. The rider, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle upon impact.

Emergency services rushed the individual to the hospital, but sadly, the rider succumbed to their injuries hours later. The incident began when the motorcyclist entered the Skyway’s northbound off-ramp from A. Bonifacio Avenue, heading towards NLEX. Despite attempts by an expressway guard to stop him, the rider, exceeding the 60kph speed limit at an estimated speed of 80kph, continued on his way.

The motorcycle, a 150cc model, was not permitted on the Skyway where only motorcycles with 400cc engines or higher are allowed. Further investigations revealed that the rider had been under the influence of alcohol and did not possess a valid driving license.

Although the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident was slightly injured and was operating within the law, they were still subjected to legal proceedings by the HPG at the Quezon City prosecutor’s office. However, relatives of the deceased rider later filed an affidavit of desistance.

This incident serves as a grim reminder of the critical importance of adhering to traffic regulations, including speed limits, helmet usage, and the specific requirements for motorcycles on expressways. Authorities continue to emphasize the safety regulations designed to prevent such tragic outcomes.
