President Donald Trump underwent his first physical exam since beginning his second term and says he’s in great shape, with the official health report set to be released on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on the way to Florida, Trump said he spent several hours at Walter Reed Medical Center undergoing a full battery of tests. “It went well. I think I did great. Every test you can imagine—I was there a long time,” he said.
Now 78 and approaching 79 in June, Trump added that he even took a cognitive test and scored perfectly. “A good heart, a good soul, a very good soul,” he joked, contrasting himself with Joe Biden, 82, whose age and mental acuity were frequent campaign topics.
The physical exam is the first detailed look at Trump’s health since last year’s assassination attempt, where a bullet grazed his ear during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. At the time, his campaign said the injury was minor.
The White House confirmed the report will be released soon, though there is no requirement for the president to share medical details publicly. Trump, known for his love of fast food and aversion to exercise, revealed that doctors did recommend “a little bit” of change to his routine but didn’t elaborate.
During his first term, Trump’s 2018 physical noted he was in good health but needed to lose weight and start exercising. He also passed the Montreal Cognitive Assessment with a perfect score.
Health and age remain hot-button topics after the 2024 election, which featured both Trump and Biden facing scrutiny over their fitness for office—especially after a rocky debate performance by Biden and Trump’s rambling rally speeches.
