Two people were injured after a stray kwitis ignited a fire at several firecracker stalls in Kalinga, causing panic among vendors and residents during New Year celebrations. The incident occurred as firecrackers were being sold in a designated area, where a sudden spark set off an uncontrollable blaze that quickly spread across nearby stalls made of light and flammable materials.

Authorities said the injured individuals sustained burns while attempting to escape the fire and were immediately brought to a local hospital for treatment. Their conditions were reported as stable. Firefighters responded promptly and managed to contain the flames before they reached nearby houses and commercial structures.

Local officials confirmed that the fire originated from a stray firework believed to have been lit outside the selling area, underscoring the dangers associated with improper handling and use of pyrotechnics. Damage to property was reported, with several vendors losing their merchandise just hours before the New Year festivities peaked.

In response to the incident, authorities reiterated their call for stricter enforcement of firecracker safety regulations and urged the public to exercise caution when using fireworks.
