The United States government has pledged $1.5 million (approximately PHP 84 million) to support the Philippine government’s relief efforts for those affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, particularly in the Bicol Region and Batangas. This funding, provided through the US Agency for International Development (USAID), will bolster ongoing humanitarian assistance, including access to clean water, sanitation, emergency shelter, and cash aid for affected communities.
In addition to direct assistance, the funding will aid the management of evacuation centers and logistical support for emergency operations. US Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson conveyed heartfelt condolences to the victims, affirming that the United States is “working side by side with the Philippine government to bring relief to communities in need.”
The US has been coordinating with local humanitarian partners to deliver prepositioned relief supplies since the storm struck on October 25. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, Tropical Storm Kristine has led to 125 fatalities, with 28 individuals still missing and 115 others injured as of Tuesday morning.
