A UV Express van driver involved in a deadly road accident in Quezon City has tested positive for illegal drugs, authorities confirmed on Saturday.

According to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), the driver—whose name has been withheld pending investigation—was found positive for shabu use following a drug test conducted after the crash. The incident resulted in at least one fatality and several injuries when the UV Express van collided with other vehicles along a busy thoroughfare.

Police said the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing the van to swerve and hit nearby motorists. Investigators are now determining whether drug use directly contributed to the crash.

The suspect is currently detained while facing multiple charges, including reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property. The QCPD reiterated its call for stricter monitoring of public utility drivers and mandatory drug testing to ensure passenger safety.
