A woman died Tuesday after being hit by a bus while crossing the EDSA bus lane near Monte de Piedad Street in Quezon City.
According to a report by dzBB’s Allan Gatus, the woman was gathering plastic bottles when she attempted to cross the dedicated bus lane and was struck by an oncoming bus.
The driver told authorities that he did not see the woman and was shocked when she suddenly appeared and hit the windshield. He claimed he wasn’t expecting any pedestrian to be crossing the bus lane.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but the woman had already succumbed to her injuries by the time she was brought to the hospital.
Police from Quezon City have since taken the bus driver into custody as investigations continue.
