In an unconventional celebration of love and commitment, a 19-year-old groom from Tuburan, Basilan, has entered into matrimony with two brides in a traditional Islamic wedding ceremony. Abdulwally, the young groom, exchanged vows with 19-year-old Nurhaima and 20-year-old Nurhana, marking a significant moment in their lives. Despite the unique arrangement, the trio does not live together under one roof. Nurhaima has moved in with Abdulwally, while Nurhana continues to reside with her parents.

Abdulwally shared his feelings on the arrangement in a recent episode of “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho,” stating his deep affection for both his wives and his desire for them to live separately to maintain harmony. The young college student has plans to build individual homes for his brides once he completes his education and secures employment, envisioning a future where they can all share a familial bond.

The story of Abdulwally and his brides began when he fell in love with Nurhana in 2022, only for their relationship to end ten months later due to misunderstandings. In an attempt to move on, Abdulwally then found love with Nurhaima, whom he courted and eventually asked to elope. Following their elopement, Nurhana approached Abdulwally’s family, seeking to also marry him. Despite initial reservations from Nurhaima, the families agreed to the arrangement, leading to their wedding ceremony on February 9, according to Yakan tradition.

Islamic teachings allow a man to marry up to four women, provided he can equally support and care for them. This principle is rooted not in the pursuit of personal desire but in the welfare of the women within the community. Abdulwally emphasizes his equal love for both his wives and his disregard for societal criticism, focusing instead on the strength of their relationship.

The family dynamic is still adjusting to its new form, with Abdulwally admitting the challenge of navigating a marriage with two wives. However, he remains optimistic about their future together. Both Nurhaima and Nurhana have expressed their acceptance of the situation, despite not being close to each other.

Experts highlight the importance of loyalty, time, and love in managing such relationships, emphasizing the need for mutual understanding and respect among all parties involved. Abdulwally’s commitment to loving both his wives equally is a testament to his dedication to building a life with them, despite societal norms and challenges.

This unique story from Basilan sheds light on the diverse practices of marriage and love, demonstrating the complexities and adjustments involved in polygamous arrangements within the context of cultural and religious beliefs.
